Hearts United’s Story

Hearts United Association, founded in 1999, was the vision of Vicki Schaffer, who, with an inter-denominational group of Litchfield church members, designed a way to minister to the needs of less fortunate Litchfield residents through provision of direct assistance and goods. Through lots of prayer and help from many community members and churches, Hearts United has grown to be a viable Christian organization serving our city. The name is taken from Acts 4:32-24:  “All the believers were united in hearts and mind… and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them.”

Uniting believers to meet needs. One of the original visions of Hearts United Association was to unite churches to meet the most immediate needs of our residents. We have an Executive Board and Advisory Board consisting of representatives from 12 or more churches.

The Thrift Store opened in 2002 as a way to further meet needs and sustain ministry expenses.  The thrift store was moved in 2005 to its current location at 110 North Jackson Street, at the corner of Edwards and Jackson.

Started out as 100% volunteers. Volunteers are still the heart of the organization. There are two full-time paid positions: Administrator & Store Manager.

Hearts United Association is a 501c3 Nonprofit organization.
